What's So Dam Funny?/ No Dam Cow

Dairying in the Mary Valley produces around 24 million litres of milk per year. Damming this seems ludicrous when there is a milk supply shortage and sustainability through local food production is a growing consumer concern. The footprint of the proposed dam includes a significant number of the Valley’s dairy farming properties, most of which have been farmed for generations. As well as livestock farming, the Valley’s rich alluvial soil sustains a range of important micro crops. Farmers along the length of the Mary River are concerned about security of water entitlements, operational restrictions, and imposed increased costs of operations should the dam proceed.
