Whilst it is difficult to ascertain exactly how many children are being affected by the community’s turmoil, 2006 Census figures suggest that it may be upwards of 3000*. It is understood that teachers in the region are banned from discussing the dam with children. With many parents’ emotional reserves being stretched to the limits, and educational intervention not permitted, children may not always receive the balanced care which is crucial in a time of crisis.
