Outbreaks of declared waterweeds (such as Duckweed
[Salvinia molesta] pictured above) are often treated by the
application of spray poisons or biological controls. The very nature
of dams makes them an ideal growing zone for aquatic weeds, necessitating
regular control treatment. As the weed dies and starts to break down,
it depletes water oxygen levels which can leads to fish kills.
