Stormwater receives no treatment whatsoever, and generally empties into a water course via a Main Drain. Despite the name, this is not simply rain water, but includes water from hosing down surfaces as diverse as roads, garages and factory floors, and is a direct means of many chemicals entering water sources. Drains and gutters also act as a direct conduit for rubbish to enter the water supply.
