Would you drink this water? You already do!

Map loosely based on information from We All Use Water - published by the Australian Water Association 2002 www.awa.asn.au
The map is intended as an approximate overview only, to illustrate the large number of wasterwater treatment plants on or near watersources.

This map indicates the current location of water treatment plants (town water supplies) and sewage treatment plants that discharge into waterways in South-east Queensland. Most sewage treatment plants release waste water downstream of their local water treatment plants, however there are a few exceptions which release either upstream of a treatment plant or into a creek that feeds into a drinking water supply dam.

By the time water is extracted at the Mt Crosby treatment plant [blue dot #9] to supply Brisbane, it has already mixed with discharge from at least 15 sewage treatment plants located upstream.
