| In an overwhelming show of solidarity,
hundreds of horseriders converged on the tiny township of Kandanga
to add their support in opposition to the building of Traveston Dam
in the Mary Valley, South East Queensland. The horseback protest beat
a path through one small section of the proposed dam area, through
fertile agricultural land, across lofty ridges, and into pockets of
virgin rainforest - all at risk of inundation. In
the aftermath of the state election [which Premier Beattie has claimed
as a mandate to build this dam], the ride was a powerful and moving
statement that opposition to damming the Mary River is widespread,
unwavering, and constantly gaining momentum.
